A Treasure! ... is FREE

Synopsis
Imagine that you meet a very old man who — you eventually realize — knows literally everything. Imagine that he explains for you the great mysteries of life — quantum physics, evolution, God, gravity, light, psychic phenomenon, and probability — in a way so simple, so novel, and so compelling that it all fits together and makes perfect sense. What does it feel like to suddenly understand everything?  God's Debris isn’t the final answer to the Big Questions. But it might be the most compelling vision of reality you will ever read. The thought experiment is this: Try to figure out what’s wrong with the old man’s explanation of reality. Share the book with your smart friends for FREE, then discuss it later while enjoying a beverage.

Still, God's Debris is emphatically not for everyone. Although there’s no sex or violence, I don’t recommend it for readers under fourteen unless a parent has screened it. And if you don’t like to have your perceptions challenged, this book isn’t for you. However, if you like a good book-induced buzz now and then, I think you’ll agree that the price was right.

The Necessity of Atheism — Percy Bysshe Shelley

If he is infinitely good, what reason should we have to fear him?
If he is infinitely wise, why should we have doubts concerning our future?
If he knows all, why warn him of our needs and fatigue him with our prayers?
If he is everywhere, why erect temples to him?
If he is just, why fear that he will punish the creatures that he has filled with weaknesses?
If grace does everything for them, what reason would he have for recompensing them?
If he is all-powerful, how offend him, how resist him?
If he is reasonable, how can he be angry at the blind, to whom he has given the liberty of being unreasonable?
If he is immovable, by what right do we pretend to make him change his decrees?
If he is inconceivable, why occupy ourselves with him?
If he has spoken, why is the universe not convinced?
If the knowledge of a God is the most necessary, why is it not the most evident and the clearest?

In this eye-opening film, director Antony Thomas goes deep into the heart of the Muslim world to explore the history and current state of Islam. He also delves into the personal lives of his subjects, who range from ayatollahs and grand imams to simple farmers and women living in veiled seclusion; their relationship with this holy book reveals a complex, beautiful and often contradictory guide for humanity.

"You find as you look around the world that every single bit of progress in humane feeling, every improvement in the criminal law, every step toward the diminution of war, every step toward better treatment of the colored races, or every mitigation of slavery, every moral progress that there has been in the world, has been consistently opposed by the organized churches of the world. I say quite deliberately that the Christian religion, as organized in its churches, has been and still is the principal enemy of moral progress in the world."

Churches ad hoc:  A Divine Comedy

Each  group seems to find a reflection of their own views in the  captioned photographs. Excerpts from the series have  appeared in places as diverse as the Internet edition of  The New York Times, a Methodist church calendar, a rock  band cassette cover, the religion page of the Stockholm  Svenska Dagbladet newspaper, and a Cornell Law School  poster for a national conference on The Constitution and  Religion: Theory and Practice.

I take photographs to amuse myself as well as the  occasional spectator. Exhibiting photographs for mutual  pleasure is similar to a comedian telling jokes to an  appreciative audience. But comedy is more serious than  photography.

Q:
Does economic development lead to gender equality?

A:
Sort of...

Attitudes toward gender in three types of societies: agricultural, industrial, and postindustrial.

Women seem to do better in general with increased development but there are notable outliers.

Japanese women, for example, lag far behind those of Peru.

The data summarize work by U.S. political scientists Ronald Inglehart and Pippa Norris and are featured in an article in the June 2005 issue of Scientific American.

Spinning cats use their own instincts to right themselves, but falling toast uses a much more powerful law to fall buttered side down.   This law comes from the all-powerful Creator of the universe.   This law proves the existence of this Creator at the same time because the law is universally observed and infinitely immutable.  It controls everything.  Therefore, the Creator -- God -- exists.QED

  6.  When you have a Beer, you don't knock on people's doors trying to give it away.
  5.  Nobody's ever been burned at the stake, hanged, or tortured for his brand of Beer.
  4.  You don't have to wait 2000+ years for a second Beer.
  3.  There are laws saying Beer labels can't lie to you.
  2.  You can prove you have a Beer.

At its peak it sported over 32 lines averaging 500 calls per day. It was supported by Novell Network backbone, on 8 servers; each line had its own computer as to keep processing speed at maximum. (These also provided heat for the apartment in winter months) It was gradually taken offline due to hackers and mounting expenses. It was fun while it lasted.
